The Nordic rallycross championship RallyX Nordic will return to Latvia with a double round

15.12.2021

Nordic rallycross championship RallyX Nordic returns to Latvia. The competition, together with the Latvian and Lithuanian rallycross championship, will be held from July 8 to 10 at the Bikernieki track in Riga. The rallycross festival will bring together drivers from near and far European countries.

In July of next year, over 140 drivers could take part in the rallycross festival at the world rallycross track. RallyX Nordic unites the world's elite rallycross drivers such as Johan Kristoffersson, Niclas Gronholm, Andreas Bakkerud and others. At the same time, on the planned weekend, we will also see the best rallycross drivers of the Latvian and Lithuanian championships.

Jānis Bergs, organizer of rallycross competitions: “We are pleased to announce that next year Latvia will host one of the highest class rallycross series. The RallyX Nordic rallycross championship every year gains popularity among popular drivers. I think that the 2022 season will not be an exception, because the world rallycross is moving in the direction of electric cars, and the number of participants is limited, so drivers are looking for opportunities to race elsewhere,” Bergs begins.

"At the Biķernieki track, athletes will meet a week after competition in Sweden, Holjes track, which invites us to think that we will see participants from different European regions in Riga. It is no less important to mention that in parallel with these fights, the Latvian and Lithuanian rallycross championship round will also take place, which could encourage local stars to join the world-famous rallycross drivers," reveals the organizer.

The motorsport event is planned to start on Friday, when the best RallyX Nordic driver in the first of the two rounds in Latvia will be determined, but on Saturday and Sunday the second round will take place together with the Latvian and Lithuanian championships.

Participants in the RallyX Nordic series will compete in five groups: the strongest Supercar class with a capacity of 600 horsepower, Supercar Lites, known in the world rallycross as the RX2, two crosscar classes: Crosscar and Crosscar Junior, and Open 2WD, single axle drive cars.

Race calendar of season 2022:
Round 1 & 2 / Holjes, Sweden (14.-15.-05)
Round 3 & 4 / Kouvola, Finland (28.-29.05)
Round 5 & 6 / Bikernieki, Latvia (08.-10.07)
Round 7 / TBC, Sweden (23.-24.07)

RallyX Nordic 2021 season took place in seven rounds, at the Nysum track in Denmark, Holjes and Arvika track in Sweden, and Oulu track in Finland. In the prestigious Supercar class, with three victories of the season, the champion's cup was won by the Swedish driver Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen Polo Supercar). Two Latvian rallycross drivers, Ronalds Baldiņš (Speedcar) and Reinis Nitišs (Kamikaz 3) also took part in the rallycross series, in the Crosscar class. Baldiņš entered the finals in 3/7 stages and won the 2nd place in one of them, but in the overall standings of the season the Latvian athlete was in the high 4th position. Reinis Nitišs finished the season in seventh place.
